The above picture was taken in the first day of our trip. As we looked
down in the middle area, it was strewn with piles of dirt and trash and appeared
very much unattended. It was hard to imagine what it must of looked like
in its hayday. In fact, our reasons for being on the roof of the Petra
Hotel were seeing the skyline and looking at other notable features.
However, as I discovered perusing through the great pictures I had obtained from
Prof. Bolen, I caught a glimpse of what it must of looked like without the trash
and the mass of humanity (especially the internationally savvy street hawkers!).
Take a look at the picture below and tell me that you don't agree it was better
in the old days! Thank you Prof. Bolen for scanning and getting these
publishable. What an invaluable service!
